I wish I could tell my younger self that it’s actually OK to be single (Q&A with Abiola Bello)

As you will have seen this morning, my interviewee this month was the author Abiola Bello. She is a Carnegie-nominated children's author, and co-founder of myriad successful businesses including independent publishing house Hashtag Press and imprint for diverse and inclusive voices, Hashtag BLAK. She is 31 years old, single and lives in Stoke Newington, London.

I loved our girl chat, to use her words in a recent email to me, and hope you will enjoy it too. My favourite part is her advice to her younger self. I also wish I could have told myself that it is OK to just be single and you don’t have to get with that guy just because you feel like you need to have a boyfriend to keep up with your mates. If only more young women actually believed this. Instead the pressure is on from an early age for girls to prove they are desirable and it just gets worse!

Anyway, I loved my natter with Abiola and I hope you will enjoy reading it.
