Dear Nicola, I'm heartbroken and don't know how to get over it

Dear Nicola,

I’m newly single and just can’t seem to get over a guy who broke my heart before Christmas. The weirdest thing is that the relationship, if you can call it that, was a short one. We hadn’t even become official boyfriend and girlfriend. Before that I had been single for over four years after breaking up with someone I’d been with for 11 years who everyone thought I would marry. I was sad for ages after that ended too but for some reason this feels more acutely painful.

My mates are sympathetic but they don’t understand why I can’t pull myself together, especially as I wasn’t with the guy long. They think I should start dating again. But I just can’t face it. I know I’m like a broken record. I just can’t believe it ended.

Please help!
